Brookdale Farm

 

The Brookdale Farm site is located 11 miles North of Brandon, at the corner of Highway #10 and Provincial Road 353. It is a 640-acre section of land (31-12-18 W) owned by Ducks Unlimited Canada. Approximately 240 acres are wetlands while the remaining 400 acres are used as pasture, hay, and cropland.

The MBFI Learning Centre is located at our Brookdale Farm site and is available for extension events. A heated shop and a canvas quonset are onsite for equipment/hay storage and farm activities. Brookdale Farm has an extensive corral system designed for facilitating research and extension events.

Johnson Farm

 

The Johnson Farm is located in the south half of 31-10-18 W, 1 mile to the east of Brandon and south of Highway #1. Currently the Johnson Farm site (formerly the AAFC Beef Research Farm), has 10 pastures (10-15 acres each) and 34 paddocks (3-5 acres each). All are intended for replicated research projects.

Johnson Farm has an insulated scale shed, mobile laboratory, and outdoor corral system for facilitating research. This site also includes a canvas quonset for equipment/hay storage, and extension events.

First Street Pasture

 

The First Street pasture is a 426 acre pasture located at 36-10-19W. The site is just east of Brandon and south of Highway #1. Of those acres, 400 are cross-fenced pastures for grazing and 26 acres are hay land.

The pasture is surrounded by a five-wire barbed perimeter fence and cross-fenced with single-strand electric fence into smaller pastures for rotational grazing. Each pasture is supplied with multiple watering points used throughout the summer. There is also a summer corral system and one winter watering site.
