Funding for the MBFI comes from a number of sources. MBFI’s primary funding comes from it’s core partners: Manitoba Agriculture, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Manitoba Beef Producers and the Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association, and by the Canada and Manitoba governments through Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative, and through user fees from research projects on the farm, and livestock and surplus forage sales. MBFI also receives significant funding and gift in kind support from many private sponsors – please see our Sponsors page for a detailed review of the friends of MBFI!

As a partnership with many stakeholders, MBFI is overseen and managed by multiple levels of governance. The newly elected board has a broad representation from the four partners and producers-at-large. Their role is to oversee the organization and provide broad strategic direction of the initiative. The next level down is the Management Committee, which works directly with the General Manager to provide feedback and guidance on management decisions of the farm activities. The Management Committee also oversees the activity and receives input from three committees reporting to it: The Research Advisory Committee provides focussed direction on research and demonstration studies and activities; the Communications Committee provides direction and oversight on all communications, outreach, and sponsor stewardship activities for the initiative; and the Animal Care Committee ensures that research animals are managed according to national standards.
