Brookdale Site Resources

Infrastructure and Capacity

The Brookdale site is located 11 miles North of Brandon, at the corner of Highway #10 and Road 353. It is a 640-acre section of land (31-12-18W) owned by Ducks Unlimited Canada. Approximately 240 acres are wetlands, and the remaining 400 acres are used for pasture, hay, and cropland.

Currently, the site has a 20' x 40’ lean-to style pole shed, an extensive summer watering system on the north end of the site pumped by solar water from a dugout and a winter waterer fed from a dugout, through a crib system. Portable panels and chute system are used for cattle handling.

A 40' x 80’ shop and handling facility was constructed during the 2015-2016 winter. This handling facility includes a heated shop and a covered handling facility area. The handling facility area is designed so that it can be easily converted into the most novel system. An overhead catwalk is planned that will allow producers to view the action from inside the shop and above the handling system.

Another future plan is to build a learning facility that will be multi-functional in its use and include a meeting room, office/workroom, and kitchen. This learning facility will be used for producer events, workshops, student activities, public tours and hosting research related events. It is anticipated that work on the learning centre will begin during the 2016-2017 winter.
